tips & projects for an authentic home

Hello Reader,

Ok, would you rather deal with old, jiggly brass doorknobs or difficult to clean, speckled tile countertops?

Yep, that's me playing the home design edition of "would you rather" over here.

Typically, I avoid this game (c'mon boys, mom is not going to answer whether I'd rather go without coffee or chocolate, I refuse to contemplate such things...)

BUT! When it comes to home updates or styling, this game can help get the party started.

I know, because it's taken me months to even slightly move the needle on my own projects.

Based on all the questions I receive, I think many of you can relate to some of this overwhelm too!

Where to Start a Home Update

I've got FOUR tips that can help break through this paralysis. Grab these quick ideas and read the whole article for more inspiration.

  • Find the Pressure Point - By this I mean, find the area that causes the most stress, or angst in your home.

Maybe it doesn't function well. Maybe it drives you crazy. Start here. This will likely have the biggest impact on how you feel about your home.

  • Would You Rather - as mentioned above, if you're feeling like there are so many things to update or style, pick the top two.

Then, decide which item you'd rather live with (at least for the time being) and which you'll devote your time/energy/budget.

  • Unlock the Chain Reaction - Many projects link together and have a cascade effect.

For example, want a new sink? Well, chances are it will affect your countertops. And if you mess with countertops, let's talk about backsplash. See what I mean? So, look at the entire chain and decide where it begins & ends.

  • Easy Does It - Sometimes we just need to choose easy.

Maybe the thought of a kitchen remodel or styling your whole home is just too much. I get it. When I'm completely stuck, I narrow it down to one teeny tiny change I can make and before I know it, I've got some momentum!

Ask Away

I know that starting a home update is a struggle for many of you. How do I know? Because I get TONS of questions about it.

And you know what, receiving your questions is one of my very favorite parts of this whole thing. I grab my coffee, play a little Tyler Childers, and share what I know to help other create an authentic home.

As your resident introvert (truth!), I also know it can be intimidating to just send someone a message online.

So, to make it even easier, I've created a quick form you can simply click and write in your home design question/struggle. No pressure at all!

I'll either answer directly or address it here in one of these posts (anonymously, of course).

Oh, are you wondering what I chose? In a world of either living with outdated doors with janky doorknobs or tile countertops giving me grief - I chose those knobs.

Meaning, they will be in my life (for now) as I excitedly pursue my kitchen remodel and bid farewell to the countertops....(stay tuned!)

xo, allisa

Home Styling with Allisa tips & projects for an authentic home Hello Reader, I'm writing this from my little office - with a blanket, hoodie, and a cup of hot coffee... but I've got sunshine on my mind! While there are gray skies out my window, I'm definitely thinking of summer which means I'm sharing some outdoor styling ideas today! Shop Patio Sources For this design, I imagined a late summer afternoon with a few good girlfriends gathered around. Ginger spritzers and folksy acoustic guitar...

Home Styling with Allisa tips & projects for an authentic home Hello Reader, Ok, I'll come out and say it - I'm sort of a stress ball right. Life has been coming at me hard and I'm using allll my strategies to deal. In addition to the usual, like therapy sessions, journaling, and my pitiful attempts at deep breathing - I also organize the hell out of my space. Tidy space, tidy mind - right? But, I admit, sometimes tackling organization can be downright overwhelming. So, in the spirit of...

Home Styling with Allisa tips & projects for an authentic home Hello Reader, In the last couple months, I'd had a whole host of contractors here. From kitchen cabinets to crawl spaces, there is work to do. And, I will be the first to admit, getting bids can be absolutely overwhelming. Whether it's just the sheer amount of time involved or staring at numbers you had no idea could be so big. (Um, excuse me sir, I think you added an extra zero there....) Well, after having worked on several...
