Week 3: Bedroom Decor Series - Simple Game Changer

Making Spaces

Hello Reader,

Here we are in Week 3 of this bedroom series and I have to admit - it's been inspiring me to take on my own new bedroom!

I mean, I moved in here exactly one year ago but it still feels new. And well, home is a process, right?

I'll link to previous weeks below but today we're talking about one of the easiest game changers - adding height.

Don't stop reading - seriously - it will change the entire space!

Plus, a huge thank you for all of you who submitted YOUR own bedrooms for feedback. See below for a reader space & my honest design input!

Adding Height

So many bedrooms keep things low, low, low. I mean it kind of makes sense when so much of the time you’re using the space laying down (ahem).

But, that can make the room feel cluttered or just plain off.

Adding height naturally moves your eyes up from the floor and instantly elevates the entire space!

Imagine how differently the bedroom above would look without the hanging pendant, tall curtains, or shelf + vertical art print! ☝️

This is a good tip for any room, but works especially well in the bedroom.

How to Add Height

Ok, there are some super simple ways to add height (you could probably set your phone down and do one right now) and some that takes a bit more time - here are my favorite ways to add height to a bedroom:

  • Tall potted plant
  • Floor lamp
  • Curtains
  • Vertical artwork
  • Landscape artwork above headboard
  • Modern ceiling fan
  • Headboards

Real Bedroom Spaces:

First, let me say that I am SO honored many of you trust me enough to share your personal spaces with me.

Today, I'm sharing one room from two different angles

Angle #1:

  • Add height with art above headboard - either two vertical prints (I'd go for something with contrast) or a wall hanging. A fun project would be wall sconces here!
  • Balance Over Symmetry: Add varying decor pieces that balance each other but not the same

Angle #2:

  • Make Door Functional: Even if this sliding door is not used, by blocking it our brain might feel like something is off
  • Consider moving plants to the left & shift dog bed
  • Soften existing lines with curtains and round mirror or wall hanging

There are lots of reasons this might be (I love putting on my detective hat and figuring out why) but a majority of the time, a room needs more texture. Or maybe just any texture at all. This is the design element often...
